What Are Online Lead Generation & Landing Page Optimization?
Online lead generation is a method of connecting your business with prospective customers who are actively seeking to do business with someone like you. This is commonly done using search marketing tools like Google Adwords and Yahoo! Search Marketing to drive targeted visitors to your website.
Since online lead generation campaigns generally use a pay-per-click model, you’ll want to make the best possible use of the visits you purchase. This is where landing page optimization enters the picture. Using a combination of testing page designs and content, along with various advertising messages, your campaign manager should work to improve your return on investment.
So, is online lead generation right for your business? If your business has a profitable product that meets the needs of a well defined customer group, you should be able to generate leads affordably online. However, if you are in a low margin business or a crowded market, don’t expect online lead generation to solve all your problems. In that case, however, you can use pay-per-click advertising to test new marketing messages and attempt to re-position your product as a leader within a market niche.
Using the web to generate sales leads is superior to offline advertising in that your ad spend is easy to track. In fact, Google Adwords has integrated its free and powerful Google Analytics program along with built in conversion tracking. With these tools, you can easily monitor which ads perform best and which key phrases work well to generate leads.
Are you using search marketing, especially pay-per-click advertising, to generate sales leads online? What lessons have you learned?

I spoke with someone this week who pointed out that often “lead generation” refers to a service that sells leads to businesses. In this scenario, the lead generation company drives traffic to their own websites and collects email addresses, then sells their lists to others.
I’m using lead generation with the idea of helping businesses generate thier own opt-in email lists on their own websites. This is a much more sustainable approach.
So according to you what you will vouch on Harvey , a lead generating company , which may or may not provide you full baked lead or a PPC campaign which got same probability of generating leads. As we are talking on small business and we understand that small business owners are lil skeptical about experimenting because they can’t afford to loose their capital without any result as they got no margin for error.
Also I would like to know the places where I can see lots of vendors who can make my website. Places like craiglist .

Self funded start-up business owners rarely feel they can afford advertising. The only way that pay-per-click campaign management works for a start-up is if they have a profitable product. If the business model is healthy, there’s some room for advertising expense. Since pay per click lets you set your budget, it can be attempted with relatively little risk.
I don’t recommend that start-up businesses use a custom web designer immediately. I’ve recently started helping people get started with a professional look for a very small fee compared to what is required for custom design.
thanks, your article is very informative.
Thanks for the tips very good information
Good post Harvey… Let me add that the term “online lead generation” can be nebulous, to say the least. I use it to describe my own company’s efforts to drive targeted and qualified web traffic to the online presence of local businesses. Whether the visitor to the site decides to opt-in to an email list is another story, and often depends on many factors- such as conversion, stickiness of site, etc.
Also, I think you’re right on about PPC. Many smaller businesses, especially ones I deal with, just don’t have the $250+ per day it takes to drive targeted traffic to their web site.
Great info!
